Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to James Cameron’s hit film “Avatar”, was released worldwide on December 16. This film was made on a budget of approximately US$460 million.

According to American magazine Variety and Bollywood portal Pinkvilla, it has grossed US$955.1 million worldwide in its 11 days of release (as of December 28). James Cameron’s epic is on track to become the sixth fastest film to cross the billion mark at the global box office.

The film has so far earned Rs 317 crore at the Indian box office. The film will break Hollywood’s “Avengers: Endgame” record at Rs 373 crores in the Indian market.

After its release in 2009, “Avatar” created using a completely new technology at the time caused a stir. The film has grossed over $2.8 billion worldwide so far, which is the highest of all time. The film was nominated in nine Oscar categories and won three awards that year.

Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, stars of the first film, also appear in the new installment. New additions include Michelle Yeoh, Edie Falco, Una Chaplin and Kate Winslet, the heroine of Cameron’s other famous film “Titanic”.

The film is produced by James Cameron and John Landau under the banner of Twentieth Century Studios.
