Bishu no more – Dainik Amader Shomoy, the lyricist of the song ‘Dushtu Chokkor Daal’
Bishu Shikdar is the lyricist of Nagar Baul’s popular song “Dushtu Tokker Daal” (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He died of cardiac arrest around 5 p.m. Saturday. He was 52 at the time of his death.
He was buried in the family cemetery after prayers at Eidgah Maidan of Dhopadah Village of Kashipur Union of Lohagara Upazila of Narail on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
Bishu’s younger brother, Shah Alam Shikder, said: “On Saturday afternoon, the older brother suddenly fell ill. Later, he was taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex and the doctor on duty pronounced him dead.
Earlier, band star James confirmed the news of Vishu’s death on social media. In a message, he said, Bishu died on Saturday at his home in Lohagara, Narail. He died of a heart attack.
Afterwards, James’s spokesperson Rubaiyat Thakur Robin said: ‘James’ brother is devastated after hearing the news of his death. He spoke to Bishu Bhai’s family.
Bishu mainly wrote songs for James. He was even the co-lyricist for many James songs. James’ latest song “I Love You” was also co-written.
The James-Bishu couple started with Nagar Baul’s “Dushtu Boykar Daal” album. After that, most of the songs on James’ albums were written by Vishu.
Notable songs written by Bishu include – ‘Dushtu Chokker Daal’, ‘Bijli’, ‘If This Shitse’, ‘Aam Ukashei Lok’, ‘Selai Didimani’, ‘Abishe Janechhi’, ‘Tufaan’ etc.
It should be noted that Salim Shikder Bishu, son of Shikder Afzal Hossain, who obtained the title of Vir Uttam in the war of liberation. He was known as Bishu Shikdar. They are three brothers and four sisters. Among the sisters, mountaineer and cyclist Reshma Nahar Ratna died in a road accident in 2020.
Bishu is survived by his wife and two daughters at the time of his death.
