Bleacher Reports says this Braves trade was one of the best of Deadline

The Braves waited until the last minute to make their biggest splash at the trade deadline, pulling the trigger on a deal that sent Jesse Chavez and Tucker Davidson to the Los Angeles Angels for Raisel Iglesias. The former Angels closest has been money since arriving in Atlanta, allowing just one earned run in 15.2 innings (0.57 ERA), and the best part is the Braves locked up for the next three years. So it’s no surprise that Bleacher Report recently named the deal the third-best trade to take place at Deadline.

The Angels clearly had buyer’s remorse over Raisel Iglesias as they traded the 32-year-old to Atlanta just months after re-signing him to a four-year, $58 million contract during the season. off-season.

Suffice it to say, Atlanta hasn’t felt the same since picking up the remainder of Iglesias’ contract as part of the deal. He allowed just one earned run in 15.2 innings with the defending World Series champions, with 19 strikeouts to just four walked.

Unlike Martin in Los Angeles, Iglesias has no momentum in Atlanta. Still, he adjusted his pitch mix to feature more variation and profited accordingly. Since making his Atlanta debut on Aug. 5, the batters are 3 for 20 with 10 strikeouts against his substitution.

Atlanta is still stuck with Kenley Jansen in the closest role, even though he hit a rookie patch with a 5.27 ERA since Iglesias arrived. But given that Iglesias has closing experience in addition to a hot hand, don’t be surprised if they end up changing.

This trade is even more of a slam dunk because a few weeks after the Angels acquired Jesse Chavez, they released him, and the Braves were able to bring him back. Since returning to Atlanta, Chavez has allowed just one earned run in 5.1 innings (1.69 ERA).

Iglesias will be an important part of the Braves for the foreseeable future, and I love this job more and more every day. Now, if Brian Snitker came on board and brought him closer full-time, that move would start to look even better. Kenley Jansen has struggled lately and Iglesias has shut out games for the Angels and Reds since 2017. It’s high time for a change.
