George Harrison was a true friend of Bangladesh during the Liberation War

George Harrison is one of those who supported the people of Bangladesh during the great liberation war of 1971.

Today is the 21st anniversary of the death of the most talented singer and guitarist of the 20th century. This legend died on November 29, 2001. He was only 58 years old then. He died at Paul McCarthy’s home on Heather Road in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.

George Harrison’s name, stirred in the hearts of millions of fans around the world, is spoken as a true friend of Bangladesh and Bengalis. His relationship with Bangladesh is soul and heart. He supported this country during its difficult times. He reached out a helping hand in extreme distress.

During the great liberation war of 1971, an initiative taken by him shook the peoples of the world. He told everyone in a song – the oppression and slaughter of the people of Bengal by the invading Pak forces. He highlighted the suffering of millions of people who have become refugees in neighboring India.

On August 1, 1971, this British musician organized a concert at the request of legendary sitar player Pandit Ravi Shankar. “The Concert for Bangladesh”, held in the historic Madison Square Garden in New York, USA, brought the just demand of Bangladesh to people around the world. Proceeds from the concert went to UNICEF for Bangladeshi refugees.

George Harrison, a great friend of Bangladesh, was born on February 25, 1943 in Liverpool, England. But spent most of his life in the United States. George Harrison married British model and photographer Patricia Ann Boyd in 1966. After more than a decade of marriage which ended in divorce in 1977. The following year George Harrison married American writer and filmmaker Olivia Trinidad Harrison. Their only child, Danny Harrison, was born on August 1, 1978. The date of their birth was the anniversary of the Concert for Bangladesh.
