If the attackers are not arrested, the BMDA building has been threatened with being surrounded

Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) officials who attacked Rajshahi’s correspondent Bulbul Habib and cameraman Rubel of the private ATN News TV station in Rajshahi have been called for swift arrest. Meanwhile, journalists working in Rajshahi warned against a strict program including the encirclement of the BMDA office.

Journalist leaders gave the warning during a protest rally held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday to demand the arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the attack on two journalists by BMDA officials and employees at the Dorikharbona crossroads. in the metropolis.

RUJ President Rafiqul Islam chaired the protest rally organized by the Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ).

RUJ General Secretary Tanjimul Haque also addressed the protest rally – Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Co-General Secretary Rashed Ripon, Executive Committee Member Badrul Hasan Liton, RUJ Vice President Bir Muktijodha Taibur Rahman, Treasurer Sarkar Dulal Mahbub, Former General Secretary Mamun-Or-Rashid, Former Co-General Secretary Saifur Rahman Rocky, Former BFUZ Executive Committee Member Jabid Apu, Senior RUZ Member Anwar Ali Himu and others.

At the protest rally, journalists’ leaders said there was no investigation into the heinous attack on two ATN News reporters. The incident was being broadcast live on ATN News at the time. His images are also with law enforcement and BMDA authorities. If legal disciplinary action is not taken against BMDA Executive Director Abdur Rashid and his accomplices, despite the existence of irrefutable evidence, a wider movement will form. Punitive action must be taken against those involved in this incident.

The speakers said that the people of Rajshahi are peaceful. Using this opportunity, Rajshahi’s Aihitya silk industry was destroyed. The Rajshahi Agricultural Development Bank was very important for agriculture and farmers in the northern region. This bank was also brought to the brink of destruction by corrupt officials. An organization called Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority has been established for the development of farmers in the Barendra region. But it is very sad that the BMDA has now become a haven for corruption. We Rajshahi journalists cannot accept such corruption of BMDA officials before our eyes.

The leaders also said that on September 5, our fellow ATN News correspondent Rajshahi Bulbul Habib was attacked by former BNP-Jamaat cadres named BNP-Jamaat during a live broadcast because we published information about the corrupt people of the BMDA. ATN News cameraman Rubel is still receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in the incident. A complaint has also been filed against those involved in the attack at Rajpara Police Station in the city. But so far none of the accused have been arrested. We demand the immediate arrest of the accused. Otherwise, I will be forced to follow a strict schedule with the people of Rajshahi, including surrounding the BMDA building.

Incidentally, ATN News correspondent in Rajshahi, Bulbul Habib, and cameraman Rubel Islam were attacked in Barendra Bhavan on the morning of September 5. They were broadcasting the news live that officials would not come to the office at 8 a.m. as per government instructions. Consequently, journalists were attacked on the orders of Abdur Rashid, Executive Director of BMDA during the live broadcast. Cameras and microphones were broken.

Two BMDA employees were temporarily suspended in the face of protests from journalists. But even though victimized journalist Bulbul Habib filed a complaint the same day, the police have yet to arrest anyone. Various programs are organized in different parts of the country as a sign of protest.
