Opi Karim returns to the big screen
The film ‘Mayar Janjal’, a joint production of Bangladesh and India, is awaiting release. Its English name is ‘Debri of Desire’.
Based on two short stories by fiction writer Manik Banerjee, this film is directed by Indian director Indranil Roy Chowdhury and produced by Bangladeshi director Jaseem Ahmed.
The director said the film is gearing up for release in both countries in February. The first preview of this film was released recently.
Prior to that, the film had its world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival and European premiere at the Moscow International Film Festival. It has already received numerous international awards and has been appreciated at film festivals in different countries, the director said.
Opi Karim from Dhaka and Ritvik Chakraborty from Kolkata starred in this film together. 15 years after the release of ‘Bachelor’ directed by Mustafa Sarayar Farooqui, Opie Karim makes his big screen debut with ‘Mayar Janjal’.
His character’s name in the movie is Soma. The girl is from Kolkata. He is married. She has a family with her husband and an only child. But the husband is unemployed. For this reason, Soma worked with veteran actor Paran Banerjee to teach his child English. Ritvik Chakraborty plays Api’s husband Chandu in the film. The film was shot in Dhaka and Kolkata. Bratya Rasu, Sohail Mondal, Shaoli Chattopadhyay and others also performed.
