Oppo has joined the Open 3D Foundation

Oppo recently joined the Open 3D Foundation (O3DF), a non-profit arm of the Linux Foundation, as a core member. O3DF was founded in 2021 to foster collaborative relationships among developers by helping deliver open source projects related to 3D graphics, rendering, and game development. Its flagship project is the Open 3D Engine (O3DE), a cross-platform open source engine for creating 3D worlds similar to AAA games and movies. O3DF has over 25 major local tech companies like Adobe, Amazon Web Services, Intel and Microsoft as associate members.

By joining the foundation, Oppo will work to advance the development and use of 3D graphics in mobile devices and work with industry leaders to improve 3D graphics performance. As part of its commitment to OTHRIDF, Apo will actively participate in the Foundation’s Board of Directors and Technical Advisory Committee. Additionally, Oppo will work together to create a team of experts to improve the development and use of the Open 3D Engine (O3DE) in mobile devices.

“Now, 3D graphics technology has become an integral part of modern society, from visual effects, games and medical imaging to next-generation content such as Metaverse,” said Hansen Hong, director of technology planning at OppoSoftware. It is a pleasure to join as a Premier member so early in the development of OtherDF. Oppo will contribute to the development of an open 3D engine on a mobile platform through cooperation with the foundation. By collaborating with the Mobile Device Working Group, O3DE will provide a smooth and user-friendly experience for developers, and we will bring more realistic rendering applications to mobile users.

O3DE is a modular, open-source, cross-platform 3D engine with photorealistic 3D and other features that help create high-fidelity 3D worlds and simulations, from AAA games to movies. Available worldwide, this engine is licensed under Apache 2.0 and MIT. OTRIDE features a complete modular construction, which helps developers choose specific functions according to their needs. Developers can add new development tools, functions and processes (related to the project) to it. Moreover, its cross-platform compatibility will make real-time 3D assets and development environment tools more efficient, helping artists and developers unleash their creativity.
