The cost of production in industry is increasing

Creation Private Limited manufactures and exports approximately 12,000 handmade products using various materials including raw jute, jute yarn and hogla fabric, leather, banana peel, kachuripana. They have two factories in the industrial areas of Pubail in Gazipur and Bisik in Narsingdi. Last August, the company spent Tk 70,000 lakh on generators at the two plants while running production amid load shedding. 10,000 to 15,000 rupees more than last month.

In this regard, the Chief Creative Officer said. Rashedul Karim told Prothom Alo that the electricity situation has deteriorated for two weeks. There are power cuts of five to six hours a day. Due to frequent load shedding, the machines in the plant are damaged. A generator has already broken down. A huge amount of money had to be spent to fix it. He said, “In order to improve the energy situation, the government has announced a weekly holiday for industrial areas in each zone. We also accepted that. There is still no improvement in the electricity situation.

500 workers work in an export-oriented garment factory named Fatulla Apparels in the Jalkuri area of Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. Due to load shedding, the daily cost of this small factory has increased by one lakh taka per day. All of this is spent on generator oil.

Fazle Shamim Ehsan, the owner of Fatullah Apparels, said the energy situation has deteriorated over the past week. There is no electricity for three to three and a half hours during the day. During load shedding, production must continue to operate with diesel generators. In addition to electricity, there is an additional cost to keep the boiler running in the event of a gas crisis.

The BGMEA wrote to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last week asking for cheap diesel to be used in factory generators. It says in the letter that due to load shedding they are forced to use generators to keep production going in the factory. We need more diesel. The price of diesel has fallen on the world market. Thus, everyone will benefit if the price of diesel is repriced locally in coordination with the international market.
