USB-C mandatory on smartphones in India – S Newz

India is following Europe to make the USB-C port mandatory on smartphones. If the new law is passed, USB-C ports will be mandatory on all smartphones by March 2025 in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.
India is also exploring the possibility of mandating the use of the same charging technology for all wearable devices such as smartwatches and fitness trackers. The new law may subject all portable electronic devices to this standard. Note that in 2019, India became the world’s second largest smartphone market, overtaking America. Market analysts estimate that 95% of all smartphones used in India are Android. Most smartphones in the market use their manufacturers’ USB-C ports, but Apple still uses the Lightning port on the iPhone. On the other hand, iPhone sales are also growing at a significant rate since the start of iPhone 14 production in India. Previously, Apple had opposed the initiative to make USB-C ports mandatory for all smartphones in the European Union. However, the iPhone maker promised to continue operations after the official policy change.
