Verdict in journalist Shakeel Hasan’s attempted murder case is October 18

The court has set October 18 to announce the verdict in the beating and burning of Beskari Jamuna Television senior reporter Shakil Hasan and cameraman Shaheen Alam.

Tuesday (September 20) was to be rendered in the case. However, as the judgment was not ready, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, postponed it and set the next date for the judgment as October 18.

On September 7, the court set September 20 to announce the verdict after hearing the arguments.

According to the case complaint, on November 6, 2016, senior Yamuna reporter Shakil Hasan and cameraman Shaheen Alam were attacked while reporting on the illegal polythene bag factory at Devidas Lane in the capital. Attackers led by Rahim, Jabbar, Zakir pounced on them and vandalized the camera. When they took refuge in a nearby grocery store to escape the attack, the assailants poured kerosene on Shakil Hasan and tried to set him on fire. At one point, Shakeel survived as locals arrested him. During this incident, Shakil Hasan filed an attempted murder complaint at Chawkbazar Police Station as a plaintiff.
