Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that if there is a mistake, there will be criticism. We have the mentality of accepting criticism. The Prime Minister cherishes this culture. The Minister of Information said these things during the Press Council Medal 2022 Award Ceremony organized by the Press Council of Bangladesh and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Information Bhawan tuesday. He said, of course, there will be criticism from the government. No government could function with precision even 500 years ago. I can’t do it even after 500 years. It will be wrong. But it must be remembered that the current head of government is managing this corona epidemic better than many countries in the midst of a war situation.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that Germany had no electricity even for a minute after World War II. Load shedding is currently happening in Germany.
There was no electricity in Australia, now there are power cuts in Sydney. In our country, Mirza Fakhrul Islam jumps and talks when he picks the lime from the betel nut, and at the same time many people who like to pass themselves off as intellectuals say so. After 12 p.m., he warmed up on a TV talk show. The ears become prickly. You have to look at the global context. Inflation is 80% in Turkey, 30% in Pakistan, 7/8% in India. In Bangladesh, it was less before, now it’s a little more, the way of writing, the way of speaking… I ask journalists to give correct information to readers. That’s the global context, that’s the Bangladesh context.
On that day, five journalists and two organizations were awarded the 2022 Press Council Medal. Bajlur Rahman, Editor-in-Chief of Dainik Sangbad, was awarded the Lifetime Medal of Honor (posthumous). The late Bazlur Rahman’s wife and former Minister of Agriculture, Matia Chowdhury, accepted the honor on his behalf. Dainik Yugantar and the regional newspaper Dainik Purvanchal also received awards as institutions.
